The megapopular Nintendo Wii Fit is now being sold alongside more conventional fitness equipment in a major California store.  The Wii Fit combines video gaming and exercise, and an agreement has recently been reached between Sports Authority president David Campisi and Nintendo to stock the Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus next to more mainstream Workout Equipment such as treadmills, free weights, rowers and cross trainers.

At the launch event, which was  held in its store  in Torrens, California, celebrity Personal Trainer and fitness guru Jillian Michaels led a large number of people in an exciting exercise session using the Wii Fit, in the hope that this new trend can make the concept of regular exercising more popular and part of everyone’s daily routine.

The Sports Authority are convinced that, to be taken seriously as an exercise option, the Wii Fit has to be displayed alongside the more conventional exercise equipment and demonstrated to customers in the same way as a treadmill or the use of dumbbells.  To this end, employees have been specially trained and have tried out the Wii Fit themselves, finding somewhat to their surprise that doing a couple of programmes on it did indeed count as exercise and had them hot and sweaty!

So far there has been a healthy amount of interest from customers with the first Wii Fit being sold within half an hour of the store opening.  Most interested clients seem to be women, especially those who currently do yoga or aerobics but the big appeal of the Wii Fit to the general population is that it makes exercising at home fun and can be used in a very small apartment where there may not be room for a large piece of equipment. As an added bonus, its affordable price makes it stand out as good value for money among other more conventional pieces of home exercise equipment.
